Pain and grief has engulfed fishers and residents of Arongo beach in West Kadinga Sub-location,Seme sub-county in Kisumu county after a boat carrying eight passengers- seven adults and one child-capsized yesterday evening at around 5.30 pm killing five people.
The dead, three are Women and two are men.
It is reported that they were visitors from Nyandarua county, who had come for a burial and were on first time boat ride.
The passengers are said to have travelled to the area to attend to a funeral and later, decided to visit the lake.
It’s alledged that while on the boat, one of the women aboard stood to take a selfie and out of the imbalance, the boat capsized.
While confirming the incident, the acting area chief, Shadrack Oluoch Ochola, said the visitors had come from Nyandarua, Migori and Siaya county.
He has appealed to the Government to help in retreaving bodies of the two. Chief Shadrack further warned members of the public from ignoring safety precautions while visiting the lake.
Bodies of the three women who were retrieved were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mortuary while the three who were rescued were taken to Manywanda health centre.
